Healing Hearts

When Healing Begins Within

Even on the hardest days, there is still purpose, hope, and the presence of God.

What is one thing you can do to take care of yourself today?

Don’t let your expectations control your response to God. Try to find joy and laughter in the little things. Identify the purpose within your daily existence. Smiling can help when your day is difficult. It’s a step toward reshaping your external and internal environment. Research shows when you smile, feel-good hormones are released in the form of dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin.

The goal is to find small ways to boost your mood—listen to your favorite inspirational song, hear an uplifting story, watch an episode of Friends that brings you comfort and laughter, or spend quiet time sitting by the water praying and resting in God’s presence. If the pain of today is too taxing, even for a smile or your favorite activity, try resting in the presence of God, and that will be enough. Always try.

Today, I pray that God’s strength, peace, and power will be with and surround you during treatment and that you will allow Him to take your suffering and use it for His glory. I pray for you to know that while every day may not be a good day, and every moment may not be a good moment, throughout every moment of the day, God is still good. May you draw peace from knowing this truth—it will never change because He never changes. Lastly, I pray that even if your circumstances don't change, you will begin to realize your outlook on life can. That’s healing, and that’s a start.

With Love and Compassion
