Healing Hearts

When Rest Becomes Part of the Journey

When your body is tired, your heart is weary, and you have nothing left to give, perhaps God isn’t asking you to keep pushing—perhaps He is simply inviting you to rest and let His grace carry you.

There is a kind of exhaustion that sleep alone cannot fix. This exhaustion comes from living with pain from treatment, from uncertainty, and from constantly navigating a body that doesn't always cooperate with what your heart wants to do. Eventually, you have to learn that rest is not giving up.

Rest is listening
…

There may be days when rest means sleeping. Other days, it may mean canceling plans, sitting quietly, asking someone else for help, or simply allowing yourself to do less. Whatever rest requires of you that day, give yourself permission to receive it without guilt. Your worth is not measured by your productivity; you are still valuable when you cannot accomplish everything, and you are still worthy when you need help.

You are still moving forward, even when moving forward means being still.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9. Again, it would be remiss of me not to invite you into a relationship with the One who continues to meet us in those moments when our own strength runs out. Whatever treatment, therapy, or healing process our journey requires, we never have to walk through it alone—Jesus is there, meeting us with His grace every step of the way.

The peace of God doesn't require peaceful circumstances. His presence can meet us in hospital rooms, doctor's offices, bedrooms, waiting rooms, and the quiet places where we cry when no one is watching. So if today is a difficult day, don't demand tomorrow's strength from yourself today. All you have to do is ask God for today's strength and peace. After that, ask Him to give you the strength to find one thing to be grateful for.

And then rest in the presence of God

Because you don't have to carry this entire journey in one day. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” — Psalm 73:26
Take one breath. Pray one prayer. Take one moment and one day at a time. And when tomorrow comes, God's grace will be waiting to meet you there too.

With Love, Prayer, and Compassion
